On this day almost one hundred years ago, Juliette Gordon Low gathered 18 young girls together in Savannah, Georgia and founded the first ever meeting of what would come to be known as the Girl Scouts of the USA. Low was high on bringing these girls out of sometimes isolated or abusive home environments so that they could be given every available opportunity to increase in health on all the four levels; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Juliette Low believed in this organization and apparently did so with just cause close to a century later, the Girl Scout members number in the millions. I remember my years as a Girl Scout with a certain tenderness and nostalgia. Without question I remember beginning each meeting reciting the promise that went: 'On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout law.' That law required each one of us to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, all of those characteristics among other positive qualities and ideals. On a day dedicated to the same, why not reach out to someone who could use a little of your own consideration and caring? Send an email, text or make a phone call that will lift the spirits of someone while brightening their day. Serve God and country in your own little way by being fair, friendly and, of course, helpful. Because it's in giving that we receive. Reach out. And then be sure to receive because as luck would have it, instant karma's gonna get you, baby! That's right, on my honor, I do swear, all that good karma's get you!
