Blogging Secrets Interview
Posted by on April 6, 2010 09:43 AMIn this post, we have something a little bit different. We asked our friend, Jack Humphrey over at Blog Success if he would give a few tips about blogging to our readers. Below are our questions and his answers:
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and why you developed the Blog Success training system? What are your credentials?
A: I've been working full-time online since 2002. I started marketing and learning about product creation and SEO in 1998. My first book, Power Linking, was released in 2002 and is still regarded as one of the key guides that started the whole "link popularity" quest website owners incorporate into their marketing plans today.
Blogging, or using blog software to publish online, is the most recent significant change to search engine optimization and traffic building through content. Although it has been used for years, marketers are still coming to terms with the fact that using blog software to publish content is the fastest and most effective way to dominate in the engines with short and longtail keywords appropriate for their niches.
Q: Why should someone grow a successful blog?
A: Simply for credibility, search engine rankings, and lead generation. There's nothing like a professional blog to attract the engines, build trust with readers, and generate targeted leads for your products, services, or affiliate recommendations.
Q: What advantages do blogs offer to PPC advertisers in particular?
A: Blogs are seen as legitimate in the eyes of Google. So if you have an about page and other pages associated with a legitimate blog, your quality score is higher with Google and you pay less to run PPC ads in Adwords.
Q: What are the biggest mistakes most bloggers make when starting and growing their blog?
A: Not defining a clear goal for the content development and marketing of the blog. Most people start a blog and realize that they don't know what to do to build content and optimize it for the engines. They get overwhelmed, claim to their peers that blogging is too time-consuming and hard, and quickly abandon their blogs.
People don't realize there are different ways to use blog software. That you don't have to become a "blogger" in the traditional sense in order to take advantage of what blog software (as a content management system) can offer. There are also easy ways to "look" like a regular blog with great content that you don't have to write from scratch.
Q: What's the hardest part of creating a successful and thriving blog?
A: The wide range of benefits that come with it. You get social links when people like your latest post. You get comments and build community because of the commenting features in blogs. Google respects well-done blogs and rewards bloggers with great rankings. With one site you can take advantage of social networking, building a strong reputation, lead generation and list building, and search engine optimization.
Q: How big of an obstacle is lacking technical skills?
A: Blogs are a good way to start when you are lacking in technical skills. The learning curve is not as great as learning to develop websites by hand. Blogs make publishing on the web as easy as it's ever been before. It is basically like word processing.
There is much more to it that you can then learn as you go along. But in the beginning you can have a very nice looking site up and content posted in short order without a ton of tech skills.
Q: Can you tell us more about your Blog Success training system?
A: We train, with a full staff and vibrant community of peers, on all facets of professional blogging and the use of blog software to generate traffic, leads, sales, optins, and referrals. From rank beginner to advanced users, we cover the gamut of blogging and blog software usage with several options depending on what your goals are.
Core Training: This is where you learn everything about blogging for reputation, lead generation, and making money with an authority blog.
1030 Method: This is where you learn how to build a mini-network of semi-automated blogs with the goal of $30 per blog per day (or $9000 per month) in income.
Q: How is your approach different than anything else out there?
A: We actively preach against using automated blogging software or any kind of "splog" creation. The value of what we teach is asset building with blogs. Meaning, if you were to put your blog(s) up for sale one day, they'd have value to someone else and wouldn't be in danger of being rendered useless because of a Google Slap (because of being seen as spammy).
We have people making over $10,000.00 per month with a single blog and others who use blogs to generate money and leads in various niches because they work just about everywhere for many types of applications.
Some students just use the popularity and search rankings to generate leads for consulting and services they provide. So the name of the game where we are concerned is building a quality presence online with authority blogs or with multiple blogs on different topics even if we don't spend a lot of time individually on such blogs after they are built. It still has to be about quality.
